New friends, 1st apartment guest & Zone Conference-Porto, Guimarães & Braga.

On Sunday, May 22nd when we arrived at church we were surprised to meet Brett & Elaine Hopper visiting from Phoenix, AZ. They both served in Portugal 37 years ago. Brett and his companion were the first missionaries assigned to Vila Real.

This photo includes the first 2 families baptized in Vila Real in 1985. Brett, is on the far right.

Brett and Elaine went with us to help with the sacrament in the Chaves Group. They doubled the attendance.

This is from the deck of their hotel with the red bridge in the background.

We met our nephew-Sean Loosli in Porto and he stayed 3 nights with us this week. He was returning home from attending a wedding in Uzbekistan.

Porto is the 2nd largest city in Portugal. Bridges over the Douro river.

Guimarães, is a beautiful city 45 minutes north of Porto and about 1 hour from Vila Real.

We happened to walk by the beautiful small chapel in Guimarães. The missionaries told us the attendance is about 90 each week with a lot of families relocating from Brazil.

We made a short stop in Lamego which has a beautiful church-Nosso Senora dos Remedios.
The door was open so we climbed 100 steps to the top of the bell tower.

Mateus Palace is the most popular tourist attraction in Vila Real and is only 2 miles from our apartment.
The gardens at Mateus Palace are as impressive as the buildings.
On Friday, May 27th we attended Zone Conference in Porto. We are in the Norte Zone and it was combined with the Centro Zone. There are 6 zones in our mission. There were 32 elders, 20 sisters, 3 couples + the mission leaders President and Sister Barcellos.

SCRIPTURE POWER
Jacob teaches that: “O how great the holiness of our God! For he knoweth all things, and there is not anything save he knows it.” (2 Ne. 9:20) Similarly, as his father Lehi taught: “But behold, all things have been done in the wisdom of him who knoweth all things.” (2 Ne. 2:24)
